Teeth whitening (or bleaching) is a highly effective yet simple method of lightening the colour of the teeth, without the need to remove any tooth structure. At Bay Dental, we offer safe teeth whitening in Lancaster that will help your teeth to be lighter and brighter.
What does teeth whitening involve?
This procedure involves 3 surgery visits to Lancaster and a 2 week home period of treatment. Stage one is where your dentist will take impressions of your teeth for the dental laboratory to be able to make bleaching trays, photos and a shade will also be taken of your teeth. The second stage is usually about a week to 10 days later where you will be given your trays and instructions on how to use the kit at home for 14 nights. The final stage is two weeks later where photos of the finished result along with a shade will be taken. at this point there is an optional 40 minutes in-surgery whitening at the final visit.
2 weeks home whitening will whiten teeth by usually 6 – 8 shades.
With optional 40 minute in-surgery premier whitening shade B1, the lightest natural shade can be achieved.
How white will my teeth get?
Typically we experience at least 6 – 8 shades lighter, though in some cases where the teeth are very dark to begin this shade increase can be larger.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Teeth whitening, with this method, are completely safe. In rare cases mild sensitivity may occur, however this can be treated using desensitising swabs.
What are dental veneers?
Dental veneers are a thin, custom-made shell crafted of porcelain or similar material designed to cover the front side of teeth, either to improve the appearance of a tooth, or to protect a damaged tooth surface.
What is involved?
Very little preparation is required for dental veneers, just enough to prevent the tooth feeling too bulky. The front surface of enamel is adjusted to make room for the dental veneers cover. An impression will then be taken in our Lancaster surgery which will be sent to a laboratory where a dental technician will make the dental veneers to be returned for your dentist to cement to your tooth using a resin-composite material.
When are dental veneers used?
Porcelain dental veneers are extremely versatile and can be used to close gaps, align crowded or protruding teeth, or lighten tooth colour.
What is a dental crown?
A dental crown, sometimes also known as a “cap”, is a restoration which completely caps or encircles a tooth.
Why do I need a dental crown?
A dental crown is often needed when a large cavity threatens the on-going health of a tooth. They can also be used to improve the appearance and function of your tooth by restoring its normal shape and size, and making it stronger.
What is a dental crown made from?
A dental crown can be made from a variety of different materials, from precious metals to porcelain bonded. These are usually used for strength and in cases where a heavy occlusion occurs. More cosmetic options, particularly for front teeth, is a porcelain dental crown which looks very natural leaving no black line at the gum margin as seen with some traditional crowns.
How long will a dental crown last?
Typically your dentist would expect a dental crown to last 10 years or longer, however this is dependent on several factors such as, the forces exposed to the crown, i.e. biting, chewing, grinding and accidental trauma. It is also dependent on each individual’s oral hygiene routine and whether the dental crown is free from plaque.
What is a dental bridge?
A dental bridge is false teeth anchored on neighbouring teeth in order to replace one or more missing teeth. The false tooth is known as a pontic and is fused in between two crowns that serve as anchors by attaching to the teeth on each side of the false tooth and thereby bridging them together.
What are the benefits of a dental bridge?
A dental bridge almost allows you to forget you have teeth missing. It can improve your appearance, the way you bite, chew and even speak. A dental bridge is matched in shade to blend in with your existing natural teeth.
